Local Director – Barcelona, Paris & Venice
Start Date: June – August 2023

Job Description
The Local Director (LD) — the representative of the host country, community or program — has an intimate knowledge of the community and culture where the program takes place.
The main and first responsibility of the Local Directors is to promote and guarantee the safety of the students from the moment they set foot in the country of destination.
The Local Director is the bridge between Terra/TTN and the destination, so they serve as a guide for international students and staff on how to participate and live in the communal culture creating the greatest positive impact.
The Local Director is to be in charge of managing the logistics of the program with the support of the Program Manager. This may entail coordination of activities, management of transportation and lodging, interacting with the catering facilities (Restaurants, hotels, street food vendors, etc) to ensure all dietary requirements are met, and the main person responsible that all daily schedules organized prior to the program by the PM are run accordingly.
Although Local directors’ main focus is the logistics, management and proper development of the program, they may be asked to conduct city tours or activities for the students, and will always have a supportive role in the supervision of the minors in connection with the International Director.
The Local Directors are in charge of the management of the program finances, during the program, as to ensure supplies for the development of the program are fulfilled (Buying Bottle of water, Ice creams, Snacks, Public transport tickets etc).
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Work directly with Program Manager to communicate all program updates and managing any program changes
- While programs are in session, lead daily meetings briefing with all international staff on project progress. Delegate responsibilities to International Staff as appropriate and maintain a daily working relationship with the PM.
- Submit all receipts and confirmations to the PM upon program conclusion
- Submit all recommendations and feedback to PM and Regional Director within 7 days of program conclusion
- Familiarize yourself with the TTN Program Standards and make sure they are upheld in respect to food, transportation, housing, and general safety.
- Program Staff Support
- Collaborate with the International Director to ensure all components of the program operate smoothly.
- Confirm reservations with local providers
- Alongside the International Director, create backup plans for programmed activities
- Ensure safety of sites, excursion providers, natural environments
- Â Collaborate and coordinate with local drivers to ensure daily transportation of staff/students (Arranged previously by the PM)
- Assist in resolving/communicating all programmatic/student/staff dynamic or logistical issues as they arise to the PM.
- Ensure with the lodging provider that appropriate and safe meals are provided
- Â Emergency On-Call System Support
- Create an emergency evacuation plan for the assigned site.
- On-call shift expectations must be accessible by telephone and/or email 24 hrs/day while programs are in session.
- Respond and attend calls from Parents in a timely and respectful manner.
- Assist Regional Director or Country Field Manager as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Logistical & organizational experience; some budget management experience.
- Experience working in multicultural and inclusive working environments.
- Experience working within the experiential education field.
- Experience working with teens or youth; either teaching in a classroom or in an alternative education setting
- Advanced conversational English skills
- Flexibility – our staff can find comfort in the discomfort, no matter their location
- Exceedingly personable and positive demeanor
- Ability to work extensive hours and be available 24/7 in case of emergency
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and cross-cultural awareness
- Collaborative in nature; skilled in problem solving
- Ability to talk things out and a willingness to express your professional opinions while considering your personal feelings and the feelings of your colleagues
- Natural aptitude to motivate and energize students in a variety of settings and situations
- Â Ability to confidently lead an ice-breaker activity
-  Knowledge of local culture and fluency in two languages (Spanish, French and/or Italian) of the cities mentioned in this post.
Required Certifications
- CPR and First Aid Certification
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination
*Note: TTN does not accept online CPR/First Aid certifications. Certifications must be attained prior to staff’s contract start date and will be at the expense of the candidates.
