The Signature Experience
Explore the best of Italy through an immersive adventure that hits all the hot spots from Rome to Venice!
Rome is Italy’s soul and its most important city. From its tremendous cultural, political and economic impact to its ancient historical influence, there is no other city in Europe quite like Rome. If you’re a history buff, take history learning out of the textbooks as you experience key landmarks like the Coliseum up close.
Florence is not as bustling as Rome, but that’s part of what makes this smaller city so magical. Climb the Duomo and witness the rolling hills and golden hues of the surrounding landscape. Stroll the streets and get caught up in the quaint Italian wanderlust along the way!
Venice is Italian heritage given physical form. Its canal system is world-famous, from the gondoliers singing to couples on their gondola rides, to the impressive architecture of a city built on water, you’ll be amazed at every turn.
No matter where your adventure in Italy takes you, your journey will be memorable at every turn. And the traditional Italian eats will be out of this world!
The Signature Experience
AT TEEN TRAVEL NETWORK, YOU'RE NOT ONLY TAKING A JOURNEY IN MILES, BUT A JOURNEY OF SHARED EXPERIENCES AND SELF-DISCOVERY.
THIS ITINERARY IS AN APPROXIMATION OF THE OVERALL PROGRAM EXPERIENCE. THE ORDER OF ACTIVITIES ON YOUR TRIP MAY CHANGE.
IF A PARTICULAR SCHEDULED EXPERIENCE IS CANCELED, WE MAY REPLACE IT WITH AN ALTERNATIVE ACTIVITY.
Day 1: Arrival
Welcome to Italy!
Staff will greet you at the airport upon your arrival. Meet up with fellow students and get to know each other during a brief orientation.
We’ll go over the schedule, expectations and tips for acclimating to the local culture.
Enjoy a meal of traditional Italian fare and head to bed early — we’ve got some busy, adventurous days of travel ahead!
Day 2: Rome & Vatican City
We’ll start our Italian adventure with some of Rome’s ancient architecture.
Explore the Colosseum, Rome’s (and perhaps Italy’s) most iconic site. To this day, it remains the largest amphitheater ever built despite being nearly two thousand years old.
Take in the beautiful panorama of the city from atop the Castello Sant’Angelo.
Visit Vatican City, home to the Pope and, although it’s located in the center of Rome, is a country all its own.
Day 3: Pompeii & Amalfi Coast
Day trip! We’ll head south to the former site of the city of Pompeii, which was
famously completely wiped out by the Mount Vesuvius volcano in 79 AD. Learn
about the region’s enthralling history from a local guide.
Enjoy the gorgeous coastal scenery of the Campania region, one of Italy’s loveliest, with its rugged cliffs and rolling hills.
Cruise through the colorful clifftop city of Sorrento and take some time to soak in the natural beauty before returning to Rome for the night.
Day 4: Rome
Today we’ll hit up all of the best that Rome has to offer, starting with a bird’s eye view of the Colosseum and the Roman Forum from Il Milite Ignoto, or the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Toss a coin and make a wish at the clear turquoise water of the Trevi Fountain before checking out the ancient aqueduct below.
Piazza del Popolo, Piazza Spagna and the Scalinata di Trinità are also on the agenda. See hidden gems throughout the city with a Roman guide.
Meet with a local pizza expert and learn to hand-make authentic pizza where it originated; savor the fruits of your labor before returning to our lodging for a final night in Rome.
Day 5: Rome → Pisa
Say arrivederci to Rome–today we’ll start to make our way north to Florence, but not without a stop in Pisa to see its famous leaning tower and eat a hearty lunch at a true Italian trattoria.
In the afternoon we’ll take a tour of the city’s famous street art, including graffiti and impressive murals. Check into your lodging for the night and get some well earned rest. We’ll have plenty to see in the morning!
Day 6: Cinque Terra
Today we’ll depart via train to Cinque Terre, a string of five quintessential towns along the Italian Riviera. These villages, each centuries old, are best known for their brightly painted buildings and picturesque harbors.
After a morning of exploring, we’ll spend some time enjoying the beach at Monterosso. Dip your toes in the turquoise water and bask in the warm sand while enjoying an authentic local lunch.
In the afternoon, return to the hotel by boat and wrap up the day with some group activities before bed.
Day 7: Florence
Head to Florence, where we’ll get our bearings right away with an aerial view of the city from the Duomo, a towering cathedral that dates back to the 1200s.
Check out the historic Ponte Vecchio, a medieval bridge spanning the river with shops built along it over the water. See Michelangelo’s Statue of David in the flesh.
Florence is famous for its culinary offerings–try your hand at creating your own pasta dish in a traditional cooking class. It’s not a trip to Italy without indulging in some rich and creamy gelato, the perfect cool treat to complement your handmade meal.
Day 8: Florence → Venice
Florence is gorgeous, but there is more of Italy to explore!
Today we’ll head to the northernmost part of our journey. Venice is an island city with a unique charm: instead of roads, people use the canals to get around. Once we arrive and settle in to our accommodations, see some of the city’s lesser-known hidden gems.
Venture out to two of Venice’s (very Instagrammable) satellite islands, Murano and Burano. Visit Murano’s famous glass factory and see how lace is made in Burano.
Be sure to snap some pics of the islands’ quaint canals and colorful houses before boating back to Venice.
Day 9: Venice
Make the most of your last day in Italy with an early morning gondola experience!
These small, thin boats are the traditional mode of transportation on the streets of water. Cruise through narrow canals and discover quaint dockside eateries, ancient cathedrals, and residential buildings all build on the water. Hop out at the Doge’s Palace, then explore San Marco Square.
Learn more about the history of the Venetian masks–the type you might wear to a masquerade ball–and try your hand at creating your own.
In the evening, join a boat cruise and watch a beautiful sunset from the deck–the perfect end to the day! We’ll have a farewell dinner, during which we will say our final goodbyes and enjoy special closing activities to wrap up the experience
Day 10: Departure
Sadly, our Italian adventure has come to an end. Though we were fortunate to see so many incredible things in only ten days.
Staff will accompany students to the airport and help check them in for their flights home.
As you settle into your seat, think of all the places you went, things you saw, and people you met.
We hope this experience has left you eager to journey overseas again in the near future. Another expedition abroad awaits!
