Program Overview

Travel with us to four cities that are making their mark in the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM).

As we explore London, Oxford, Paris and Geneva, our group’s love for all things STEAM will grow exponentially. We will see technology in action as we test robot mechanics at the London Science Museum, engage with the history of science during our day trip to Oxford, put modern engineering to the test as we cross the English Channel via high speed train, become entranced by the collision of art, architecture and engineering in Paris, and of course journey to the modern center for scientific research in Geneva.

We will become savvy travelers as we navigate our way by train from city to city, interact with locals, and immerse ourselves in three distinct cultures. This trip is ideal for any teen who wants to explore Europe and connect with other travelers who also want to take their STEAM knowledge to the next level.

PROGRAM ITINERARY

THIS ITINERARY IS AN APPROXIMATION OF THE OVERALL PROGRAM EXPERIENCE. THE ORDER OF ACTIVITIES ON YOUR TRIP MAY CHANGE.
IF A PARTICULAR SCHEDULED EXPERIENCE IS CANCELED, WE MAY REPLACE IT WITH AN ALTERNATIVE ACTIVITY.

Day 1: Arrival Day

Welcome to London!

Our Teen Travel Network Trip Leaders will meet you in the London airport arrivals terminal wearing their TTN t-shirts.

We will spend this first day settling into our accommodation and building connections with fellow travelers. Before we sleep off our jetlag, we will enjoy a local welcome dinner.

Day 2 - 3: London, England

Dive in to the quirky, vibrant, and cosmopolitan city of London!

Jump into the hustle and bustle of London life by exploring Westminster, where we’ll witness the Changing of the Guard Ceremony and marvel at the majesty of Westminster Abbey. Get in some laughs during our guided tour through the Tower of London by an infamous Beefeater, marvel at the beauty of the Crown Jewels, and spend a night out on the town in the West End, seeing art and music come to life on stage.

Explore iconic sites such as the Big Ben Clock Tower, get a birds eye view of the city from the London Eye, a cantilevered observation wheel on the South Bank of the River Thames, and enjoy a traditional British meal of fish and chips at a famous local pub.

Day 4 - 5: Oxford, England

Use the scientific method and your forensic skills to evaluate evidence and collect DNA in a fictional crime scene to determine who is the criminal with a real Scotland Yard detective. Visit the famous London Science Museum, explore the many interactive exhibits including the new Energy Revolution Gallery, dedicated to examining the shift in energy necessary for the world to combat climate change, and the Engineers Gallery, which shines a light on famous engineers in modern history.

Time to get away from the bustling city of London and towards the gates of one of the most prestigious and oldest universities in the world: Oxford University. Stroll through the cobblestone streets and see the buildings where many famous scientists have lived. Visit the Oxford Museum of Natural History, home to millions of specimens from the natural world.

Say “Ta ta for now” to London and board our high-speed train to Paris. Our train will travel at nealry 200 miles per hour submerged underneath the English Channel, a true feat of math, technology and engineering!

Day 6 - 8: Paris, France

Bonjour Paris!

Our days in Paris begin by basking in the endless intersections of art, engineering and culture at every turn. Explore the city like a local by using the Metro, a vast train system that connects the city and surrounding arrondissements or suburbs. Stroll down the streets where your senses are met with the smell of fresh pastries and coffee from local pâtisseries, the sounds of slow jazz wafting through the air from street musicians, and the sights of local fashion as we pass Parisians enjoying conversations at quaint sidewalk cafes.

No Paris visit is complete without climbing the Eiffel Tower, getting lost in the Louvre Museum on your way to see the Mona Lisa, exploring the Palace of Versailles, and trying true French cuisine in the culinary capital of the world!

We will take ourselves off the beaten path and connect deeper with the true heartbeat of Paris through a locally led community service project helping those in need alongside Parisians. We’ll get lost in the beauty and magic that is the timeless neighborhood of Montmartre, home to the Sacré-Cœur and one of the best vantage points over the city. Paris is a city famous for artists and their influence on the arts, but it also is home to the biggest science museum in Europe, the Cité des Sciences et de L’Industrie where we will attend an astronomy talk in the Planetarium and see our solar system up close.

Shout “Au Revoir, Paris” and jump on the train to Geneva!

Days 9 - 11: Geneva, Switzerland

Geneva, the worldwide center for diplomacy, is a hub in Europe for politics and science. This tremendously influential city has been the home of the United Nations since 1936. Here we will learn what it means to have “an air of peace and the winds of freedom.” Gain this new perspective on a guided visit to the United Nations Palais de Nations. Dive into the fascinating Universe of Particles as we are guided through the iconic museum of the European Council for Nuclear Research (CERN) to learn more about the contemporary physics being explored at this state-of-the-art facility.

As we appreciate the scientific breakthroughs that have been made here in Geneva, we will also take time to enrich ourselves in Swiss culture through one of the best ways we can connect with a culture, food! We will have a chocolate-making workshop, try some traditional fondue, and take a plunge into Lake Geneva!

Before you even know it, the journey traveling through some of the most influential cities in art and science comes to an end.

Adieu and à la prochaine, till next time!

Day 12: Departure day

Before we know it, our STEAM adventure has come to an end. Head to the airport with incredible memories, new friends, and confidence that will benefit you for life!

TTN Trip Leaders will accompany travelers to the airport and check them in for their flights home.

As you settle into your seat for the journey home, reflect on the things you saw, the people you met, and places you went. We’ll see you on your next adventure! Welcome to the Network!
