About Fellowships

At Teen Travel Network, students have the opportunity to add to their program experience by applying to be a TTN Honors Fellow or Arts & Letters Fellow.

Fellows complete pre-program coursework and a post-program final project, in addition to some on-program assignments that will support their final project upon their return home.

Fellowships are 100% optional and won’t impact the core Teen Travel Network program experience in any way.

Rather, electing to participate as an Arts & Letters or Honors Fellow allows creatively gifted or academically motivated students the opportunity to build on their program experience in a meaningful way while earning special merits that they can add to their future college applications.

Getting Started

If you’re interested in applying to be a TTN Honors Fellow or Arts & Letters Fellow, simply follow these steps:

  1. Select either the Honors Fellowship or Arts & Letters Fellowship
  2. Complete a brief online application by May 1st (applying is free!)
  3. Upon receiving an acceptance letter by email, pay the $500 Fellowship Fee
  4. Once this is all done, you’ll receive an email from our Fellowships Coordinator who will provide you with a curriculum packet that outlines all of the pre-program, on-program and post-program assignments associated with your Fellowship.

You must be enrolled in a Teen Travel Network summer program to participate in a Fellowship.

However, you are welcome to apply for a Fellowship first before you enroll in a TTN summer program to see if you are accepted as a Fellow first. If you are accepted, just remember you must enroll in a summer program to take part in the Fellowship experience!

Important Notes

Once you are accepted into the Fellowship and receive your curriculum packet, you will be able to review everything expected of you as a Fellow.

Please note that there is no hand-holding during your Fellowship. You are expected to take the initiative and complete all parts of the curriculum and final project on your own. You may ask questions to your Fellowship Coordinator, but for the most part, the curriculum packet will cover everything you need to know and do to successfully complete your Fellowship.

Pre-Program

You will be asked to complete some optional reading and/or viewing prior to departing for your travel program. This will help you frame the experience and provide context for your final project when you complete your program.

While the pre-program coursework is optional (you won’t be graded or anything), it is something we strongly recommend you do in order to make your Fellowship experience the most rewarding it can be!

On-Program

During the course of your travel program, you’ll be invited to do some assignment work in the field to help you prepare for your final project after you return home.

For Honors Fellows, this typically involves engaging with program staff, peers and folks you meet along the way to further your understanding of the concentration you selected. You are encouraged to journal as well, as this can help you pull ideas and experiences that you can draw from for your final Fellowship project.

For Arts & Letters Fellows, this usually involves doing some creative work during the course of your program. If you’re in the Photography concentration, you may want to take some photos that you’ll use toward your final project, for example.

Post-Program

The only part of your Fellowship that you’re scored on is your final project, which you’ll complete when you return home from your Teen Travel Network summer program.

For Honors Fellows, your final project will take the form of an essay where you’ll respond to one of several prompts related to the concentration you choose when you applied.

For Arts & Letters Fellows, your final project will take the form of a creative project where you’ll be inspired to create something meaningful, be it a story, a photo essay or a video.

FINAL PROJECTS ARE DUE TO THE FELLOWSHIP COMMITTEE FOR REVIEW ANYTIME AFTER YOU RETURN HOME FROM PROGRAM, BUT NO LATER THAN SEPTEMBER 15, 2024.

Your Fellowship final project will be reviewed and scored by no later than January 15, 2025.

After that time, if you have been determined by our Fellowship Committee to have successfully completed all requirements within your final project, you’ll be named an Arts & Letters Fellow or Honors Fellow in good standing, and receive all the awards and merits listed below for your achievements!
